| BURLINGTON - Swamp Cabbage & Rick Redington at Nectar's | |
| 10:00 PM-10:00 PM | |
| SWAMP CABBAGE debut performance at NECTAR's with Rick Redington. NECTAR'S. Swamp Cabbage at 11pm Rick Redington at 10pm, 188 Main Street Burlington VT. Swamp Cabbage is a new group formed by Richie Havens’ lead guitarist Walter Parks who describes the sound as “Northeast Florida style, fatback, boogaloo-blues stirred into a gumbo of Louisiana ragtime.” Their latest CD Honk was recorded in St Augustine. Swamp Cabbage presents true American Roots music in that the songs paint images of the Southern U.S. areas that inspired them. Upon a listen, it’s evident that this music could have only come from one area - the Louisiana Bayous and the Northeast Florida palmetto thickets that songwriter Walter Parks calls home. Swamp Cabbage is a raunchy foot-stompin’ tip of the hat to Chet Atkins, Billy Gibbons, Tom Waits, Doc Watson and Dr. John. Swamp Cabbage is new Southern music - different from, yet in keeping with, the North Mississippi All Stars and Mofro. Parks’ fingerpicked electric guitar honks like a razorback hog. Drummer Jagoda grooves like he’s leadin’ a New Orleans funeral parade and Matthew Lindsey’s hollow-body bass barks like a tuba through a fuzz box.” Walter Parks, originally from Jacksonville, Florida, has many Florida fans from touring with his former group The Nudes. When breaks in his schedule with Richie Havens allow, Walter travels with Swamp Cabbage. Bassist Matt Lindsey is from Atlanta and also plays with Sony artist Mary Fahl. Jagoda is from The Bronx. All members now live in the New York area. http://www.SwampCabbage.com | ----- Thursday, May 11, 2006 ----- |
