Ad placement reservations may be made by contacting your Advertising Sales Rep, by phone at 802-861-6486, or by email at ads@mountainpridemedia.org.  Ads to be designed by us must have all copy, graphics, and fonts supplied by the “Print-ready digital” deadlines listed above.  Materials and print-ready digital ads can be hand-delivered to our office at 34 Elmwood Avenue in Burlington, VT.  (Across from the Post Office.)  They may be mailed to the address above.

Specifications: Print-Ready digital ads are ready for printing with no changes necessary. All Print-Ready ads must be submitted in digital one of the below digital formats. Ads designed in MS Publisher, MS Word, or PageMaker will not be accepted.

A • Adobe Illustrator .EPS files. (1A) Before saving as an .eps, remove font information by selecting all elements (ctrl-a [win] or command-a [mac]) and turn fonts to “outlines” (ctrl-shift-o [win] or command-shift-o [mac]). 2A) Then, if the ad is b&w, make sure all elements have no color info by selecting all elements and choosing Filter > Colors > Convert to Grayscale. Choose “Convert to CMYK” if the ad will be published in color. 3A) When saving as an .eps, be sure that “Transparency Flattening” is set to “High Resolution” if this option available to you.

B • .PDF files. You can make a .pdf file from Quark XPress, InDesign and other graphics programs. All .pdf files are different, so to make sure your .pdf will print correctly on our press, please make sure of the following: 1B) Reduce font information. If it all possible, turn all your text to outlines before you make a pdf (see above, 1A). If this option is not available, make sure that 100% of your fonts are embedded. 2) In Adobe products where transparency is supported (drop shadows, opacity, blending, etc.) it is very important that you flatten transparency to the highest resolution. This can be accomplished before making a .pdf  (see above, 3A) or it can be selected as a preference under “Advanced”. 4) Check your color (see above, 2A). 5) Under “Compression,” grayscale and color images should be downsampled to 200dpi, JPEG Maximum. Monochrome Bitmap Images should be downsampled to 800 dpi CCITT Group 4. If all of this sounds like Greek to you, choose “Press Quality” as the default job option set, and in most cases, your ad will turn out fine.

C • .TIF files. While .tif files are perfects acceptable, we recommend against using small type in these ads. When making a .tif file, the quality of all of your type will be compromised and will likely look fuzzy or jagged in print (though lovely on screen).

Color ads: All color ads in OITM should be made in a CMYK color space. RGB mode is not permitted. For best results, total ink density should not exceed 240% (out of a total 400%) in any area of your ad. Black should comprise no more than 80% of the 240%. You can check your ink density using the “Info” palette option in PhotoShop or in the output preview in Adobe Acrobat Professional. To limit registration issues, try to use as few plates as possible and avoid using “rich black” (black plus cyan or another plate) for text or in areas with reverse type.
