Chin Ho, Girl!

CD Review

Chin Ho!

"Girl"

Big Heavy World

Brief but compelling, “Girl” is the seventh release from the Burlington-based alternative-pop group Chin Ho! The 7-song CD includes the new single “Scare Me These Days” and a new version of their 1998 hit “(I Wish I Was a) Girl.”

With the sort of mellow guitar riffs characteristic of local groups like Phish and Stangefolk and the deep, methodic, Tragically Hip-esque vocals of front-man Andrew Smith, “Girl” will allow those unfamiliar with Chin Ho! to appreciate their appealing musical style and technique.

Fans of Chin Ho! may be disappointed at the length of “Girl,” but will be pleased by the familiar tinge of angst and emotion in the laid-back beats that have made them such a popular spectacle in clubs around the East and with acts like Jewel, Jimmie’s Chicken Shack and the Rustic Overtones. Chin Ho! recently began a six-week East Coast tour, and will soon embark on a national tour.
