Community Compass is a service of OITM. GLBT organizations from around the state are invited to provide briet — 200 words or less — descriptions of recent or upcoming activities and events. Send your submissions to us by email by the 15th of the month.
AIDSERVICES OF SW VERMONT
There are exciting events afoot for the spring! Peter Yarrow (formerly of Peter, Paul & Mary) will be performing at Mt. Anthony Union High School in Bennington at 7pm on April 28. The show also features his daughter Bethany. Their focus is tolerance and diversity. Tickets can be purchased at School Street Café, Evans News, and Bennington Book Store. AIDServices will happily arrange to get tickets in advance for folks who can’t get to Bennington ahead of time.
The Spring Concert will be held at 7 pm on May 20 at the Second Congregational Church. Performers include Hal Waters, Lindsey Dyett, the Gentle Jazz sounds from Burr and Burton School, and others.
April education discussions have been scheduled with the Applegate and Willowbrook communities.

BENNINGTON PRIDE PROJECT
I would like to take some time to thank the advisory group for their effort and desire to make people in the Bennington area aware that we have formed a diverse group of men who have made a commitment to themselves and the gay and bisexual men in the community, and that we are here and will continue to make a difference. Because of their efforts, we have created a safe place for gay and bisexual men to come and share their concerns and voice their opinions in a healthy atmosphere. You can remain as anonymous as you need to, and your anonymity will be protected.
Whether it be welcoming men who have relocated into the area, supporting an activity that may be a bit out of the norm, or making men already in the area aware that there is a group that enjoys getting together, we are reminding people that they are not alone. We welcome new people and ideas. Keep in mind that if you like a certain activity, chances are there is someone else out there that may enjoy it as well. Boston-New York AIDS RIDE
Max Stroud and Kendra Henson will host a brunch at 135 Pearl on Sunday April 16th from 11am - 2pm to raise money for the 2000 Boston -> New York AIDS RIDE. Together they will ride 300 miles from Boston to New York to raise money for AIDS services. These gals have to raise a minimum of $3,400 just to participate in the September 15-17 ride, and hope to raise even more. Come out to brunch and hear more about their commitment to ride and the beneficiaries of the ride, and to have some really good food. It is estimated that 33,400,000 people worldwide are infected with HIV right now. With your support we hope to avert deaths caused by this epidemic and to help those who are ill and in desperate need of care and intervention.
CHILTERN MOUNTAIN CLUB
Have you been cooped up all winter with cabin fever? Then join Chiltern Mountain Club for its Spring Jamboree on Memorial Day weekend (May 26-29) at Emerald Lake State Park in East Dorset, VT. Chiltern has reserved 49 campsites and 17 lean-tos, accommodating roughly 230 people, on a heavily wooded ridge above Emerald Lake; coin-operated showers and flush toilets are conveniently located. A variety of hikes will be planned and there are also boat rental facilities at the site. Other possible activities include biking, swimming, fishing, volleyball, croquet, visiting local museums, riding the Stratton gondola, and contra dancing. Saturday night we will have our traditional PotLuck Dinner, so if your last name begins A-E bring an appetizer or salad, F-N a dessert, and O-Z a main course. Cost for the event is $25 for members who pre-register, $30 for non-members and those registering on-site. Included in the fee are three breakfasts of juice, bagels, muffins and fresh fruit. All other meals are the attendees’ responsibility. Please note that spaces can be guaranteed only for those who pre-register. MOUNTAIN PRIDE MEDIA
Mountain Pride Media welcomes volunteers to our monthly “stuffing” parties at which we organize the 6,000+ copies of the paper for distribution around the state. This happens on the final Thursday evening of each month at the Mountain Pride Media office above the Daily Bread in the center of Richmond. Activities are in full swing by 6, and we are generally all done by 8:30. We break for pizza and manage to have a good time while ensuring papers are off to subscribers and drop sites around the state within a matter of hours of being printed. Come on by April 27 to meet some new folks, have some fun, and participate in supporting the community!

R.U.1.2? COMMUNITY CENTER
On Saturday April 15, the R.U.1.2? Community Center will host its 2nd Annual “Who are the people in your neighborhood?” Community Supper at 6 pm at the Radisson Hotel in Burlington. It’ll be the perfect way to kick off the Queer Millennium. We’ve got local talent in live performances, speakers who’ll inform and entertain you, good food, and yes, another installation of the Vermont Queer Archives. Awards will be given to outstanding volunteers whose time, sweat and tears help our community thrive. Local nonprofit GLBT & A organizations will have tables on site to strut their stuff and show you what they’re doing for the community. It’s a lot to sardine into four hours, but our community has gone through a lot since our first Community Supper. The price? $25 donor ticket, $15 supporter ticket (youth, elder, low income). This year, we are requiring advance purchase or reservations. Last year there were more people than we had seats for and we don’t want that to happen again.
