Being With Leo

Zodiac graphic

by Glo Daley

Summertime and the living is... lively! “And why not,” says Leo. After a month of introspection with Cancer the Crab, Leo is ready to EXPRESS all the emotion that Cancer has been steeping in. Yes, Leo the Lion roars from July 23rd to August 22nd, shaking his magnificent mane, and generally, letting it all hang out – and that goes for Leonora too. King or Queen, we may become the regal beast for better or for worse.

To get a deeper look at Leo, it’s important to remember that its planetary association is with the Sun. The Sun is the center of our solar system, and this is a time when we may want to work with the notion of being central. Because Leo happens in the middle of a season, in this case summer, it is considered to be a fixed sign. This means we are likely to want to stick with what is, a perfectly neutral trait depending on what we stick with.
Therefore, on the ego level we may get stuck in simply craving more attention and approval from our world. After all, it is “our” world, “our” realm, and as Suns we are the center. Then again, on a more enlightened level, we may perceive that being central means that “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for” and that we can make more creative use of our innate wisdom, clarity, and enormous solar energy by giving what we have to give.
The Sun is nothing if not generous, and we now can allow it to inspire us. It symbolizes the capacity for largesse, magnanimity and a joy that doesn’t quit. It ultimately has the potential to give without being depleted, feeling only delight in the process. The Sun is not straining as it sends its warmth our way. It is not harmed as it serves. Instead, service can begin to feel like a privilege and a celebration... just another way of expressing warmth.
Leo is a fire sign and its fiery ways can now take us to plain old excessiveness or, with some awareness, bring us to hugely enthusiastic possibilities. With the support of the generous and sunny Leo, forgiveness may seem easier now. Greater creativity may be stimulated. We may become more confident in this time period about our abilities and talents and be better able to share them with our communities in spite of seeming difficulties. We now may more easily see the beauty in ourselves and in others. Enjoying what is, our daily living can quite naturally turn into a royal celebration, a mature appreciation of the power and joy of being, here and now, a human being.
