PRIDE VT's Got High Hopes
New People! New Energy! New P.R.I.D.E.!
Pride festivities are scheduled for July 10th this year. We have high
hopes to make the upcoming celebration bigger and better than ever before,
and encourage all to come out and get in on the pride planning process!
Meetings are open to everyone, and held
the second and fourth Tuesday every month at UVM's Waterman building in
room 427A. If you can't make the semi-monthly P.R.I.D.E meetings, check
out one of our sub-committees: parade, waterfront, fundraising, or media/
advertisement. You can help out when you have time and be on your merry
way!
P.R.I.D.E. also needs help with upcoming
mailings: This is a call for any willing packers, lickers, and sealers
to come to the table. Good times are to be had by all! Parade registration
forms will be available soon for folks interested in participating. For
all the latest and greatest P.R.I.D.E. updates, check out our website
at www.pridevermont.org.
SafeSpace Staff Expands
The SafeSpace office has quickly become
a bustling place! In the past month we've welcomed in three additions
to the staff. We are excited to introduce Mackenzie Gray, our Women's
Studies Intern, Clark Sheldon, our Youth Violence Prevention Advocate,
and Aidyn Laurynz, our Americorps*VISTA. The SafeSpace Fundraising Committee
has also blossomed in recent months and continues to seek out new members!
Things will be picking up in the next couple of months as we take on a
plethora of events. We started up our annual raffle last month and will
continue selling tickets through March. By buying these raffle tickets
you're helping us in our efforts to provide a wide array of support to
survivors of violence. The drawing will take place on April 6 at The Waiting
Room restaurant in Burlington. Last year's winner won $800 and we hope
to have as large a turn-out this year!
Our search continues for folks interested
in joining the SafeSpace board! For more information or an application,
contact Kara at Kara@safespacevt.org
or call the office at 802.863.0003.
SafeSpace is a social change and social
service organization working to end physical, sexual, and emotional violence
in the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning
(LGBTQQ) people.
Outright Turns 15
Please attend our Celebration of 15
Years of Outright Vermont: Family Reunion & Annual Silent Auction.
Friday March 26th, 7-10pm at the Firehouse Gallery (2nd floor) on Church
St. in Burlington.
As one of the oldest LGBT organizations
in the state, we have been a cornerstone of our community for 15 years.
Through our work with young gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning
youth ages 22 and under, in Vermont we have been able to provide a safe
and supportive space and multiple resources for youth to connect with.
Outright Vermont would like to extend a
special invitation to folks from around the state (and beyond), to all
past youth, donors, board members, staff and volunteers who have been
involved with Outright over the past 15 years to come to our "Family
Reunion" celebration in March. Connect with folks you haven't seen
in years, find out what is new and exciting at Outright and browse and
bid on one or more of the 100+ items and "packages" we will
have for music lovers, kids, getaways and more.
You know the work we do is vital
to our community. Without your much-needed donations, Outright would be
unable to provide an outlet for the voice of queer youth in this state.
Use this opportunity to find out how you can be part of the work we do,
financially or by donating your time.
For more information call: Co-Executive
Director, Lluvia Mulvaney-Stanak at 802-865-9677 or go online to: www.outrightvt.org.
