Thanks
Putting together a monthly newspaper
on a shoestring budget is a tough job, and you do it very well. Kudos to
all of you for publishing such an informative and entertaining community
resource.
I particularly enjoyed this month's
column by my friend Anne Moore. Her writing sparkles with vim and verve.
I laughed out loud reading her frisky, frank, profanity-laden prose. Please
print more Moore!

We plan to publish more Moore - but this month, Ms Moore is on vacation
with her parental units in Texas and begged off. Look for her column in
the October issue. - EB Make

The election is less than 65 days
away. Are you sure your name appears on the voter rolls? If you are not
registered to vote or need to update your voter registration information,
you can use the "Register To Vote" link on the Mountain Pride
Media web site or go to www.yourvotematters.org/TurnOutVT
With the 2004 presidential race less
than 65 days away and shaping up to be just as close as it was in 2000,
each and every vote will be vital in determining the course our nation
takes in the future.
You can't vote if you're not
properly registered. This year, millions of new voters are being registered
nationwide. Because of massive efforts to register new voters, in some
states it might take election boards weeks or months to enter new voter
registration cards onto the official voter rolls. Mountain Pride Media
has partnered with Working Assets to register voters for the upcoming
election. There you can register to vote or change your registration address.
Just fill out the form, print, sign, stamp and mail.
Don't wait until the last minute
to register - if you do, you may arrive at the poll on Election Day only
to find that your name is not on the list!
Thank you for all of your support
and for taking a quick moment to help increase civic participation!

Trans Wisdom
After reading Sierra Burke's article
"Why Do We Transition" I just had to write. With eloquence,
insightfulness, and above all, Love, Sierra Burke "hit the nail on
the head." Transitioning is about LIFE! All the doctors, lawyers,
judges, and legislators, can argue until they're blue in the face, but
until they realize that "transgenderism" is more than just a
word to be bandied about and debated in legalese... until they come to
know someone who's committed suicide rather than face the ignorance, indifference,
and hatred of society... in short, until they "put a face" to
transgenderism... I fear society as a whole will just shrug the whole
issue off with the old "well thank God I don't know one of 'those'
people" mindset. Sierra Burke's article goes a long way in educating
folks in and out of the GLBT community about what the issue is... LIFE
for the transgendered individual. Personally, after much prayer, therapy,
crying, talking with fellow transgendered individuals, I've come to accept
myself for what I am... ME! No more, no less. Recently I read an interview
with the irrepressible RuPaul. One of her quotes really hit home... in
response to the question "what is RuPaul?" she said, "I'm
a spirit having a human experience, that's it.” Isn't this what
it's all about? I hope and pray that more voices like Sierra Burke's are
heard in the mainstream of our culture.
Thanks, Sierra.
